Purpose of This Methodology

Betline.co.za publishes informational profiles and comparisons of a selected range of licensed betting sites available to South African bettors. This page explains the criteria used when evaluating betting sites, the process through which information is compiled and verified, and the commercial arrangements that fund the site.

Betline does not aim to list every licensed betting site operating in South Africa. Licensing is the minimum requirement for consideration, but it does not automatically guarantee inclusion or continued placement.

Transparency is a core editorial principle at Betline. This methodology is intended to give bettors a clear understanding of how the site works before relying on its information.

Betting Site Eligibility: Licensing as the Prerequisite

The first and non-negotiable condition for any betting site to be considered for inclusion on Betline is a valid bookmaker licence issued by a recognised South African gambling regulator.

South Africa’s gambling regulatory framework operates at provincial level. Bookmaker licences are issued by one of the nine provincial gambling boards. The National Gambling Board provides national oversight and publishes a verified operators portal containing information about licensed gambling businesses.

Licensing information is verified using publicly available regulatory information, including provincial gambling board records, the National Gambling Board’s verified operators portal, betting-site disclosures, records held by the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission, and other relevant regulatory and corporate sources.

Betting sites that cannot be confirmed as holding a valid South African provincial bookmaker licence are not featured on Betline. This exclusion applies regardless of their market profile, popularity or promotional activity. Offshore and unlicensed gambling sites fall outside the scope of Betline entirely.

A valid licence establishes that a betting site is legally eligible for consideration. It does not amount to a Betline recommendation or create an automatic right to inclusion.

Selection and Continued Inclusion

Once licensing has been confirmed, Betline considers the wider suitability of a betting site before deciding whether it should be included. This assessment can take account of ownership and corporate transparency, the accuracy of public information, payment and withdrawal practices, promotional terms, responsible gambling provisions, customer support, platform usability and the overall value provided to South African bettors.

Betline can also consider how a betting site and its publicly established associated businesses present gambling products to the public. This is relevant where common ownership, management or a close commercial connection is clear and the associated conduct could affect trust, responsible marketing or Betline’s editorial standards.

Inclusion is subject to continued review. A betting site that previously met Betline’s standards might not continue to meet them if its ownership, practices, marketing, service or commercial circumstances change.

Betline retains the right to decline, suspend or remove any betting site at its editorial discretion. No betting site, affiliate platform, commercial partner, investor or associated business has an entitlement to inclusion or continued placement.

The absence or removal of a betting site does not necessarily mean that it is unlicensed or operating unlawfully. It means that the site is not included within Betline’s selected comparison coverage.

Evaluation Criteria

No single factor determines how a betting site is presented on Betline. Different sites can perform better in different categories depending on the needs of South African bettors.

Once licensing and general suitability have been confirmed, featured betting sites are evaluated across the areas described below. The purpose of this process is to provide a reliable overview of each site’s services so that bettors can make an informed decision before registering.

The advertised value of a promotion is considered together with the conditions attached to it. A large headline amount does not necessarily mean that an offer provides better value if the qualifying or withdrawal conditions are restrictive.

Affiliate relationships do not alter the factual information published about betting sites. Certain placements can be identified as Featured, Sponsored or Partnered where a commercial relationship exists.

Commercial arrangements do not override Betline’s licensing, selection or editorial standards. A commercial relationship cannot purchase eligibility, determine the factual findings of a review, prevent material information from being published or protect a betting site from reassessment or removal.

Commercial approaches, proposed partnerships, investment discussions or external pressure do not create a right to inclusion or preferential editorial treatment. Betline retains final control over which betting sites are included, how they are described and where they appear.

Affiliate and Commercial Disclosure

Some links on Betline are affiliate links. This means Betline can earn a commission if a user follows a link and completes a qualifying action, such as registering with a betting site. Affiliate revenue funds the research, maintenance and operation of Betline as a business.

Affiliate relationships are maintained only with locally licensed betting sites that satisfy Betline’s current selection standards. Holding a valid licence or operating an affiliate programme does not automatically qualify a betting site for inclusion.

A commercial arrangement can fund a clearly identified Featured, Sponsored or Partnered placement among betting sites that already meet Betline’s standards. It cannot purchase initial or continued eligibility or alter the factual information published about a betting site.

Accuracy of Information

Information published on Betline is based on publicly available sources, regulatory and corporate records, betting-site disclosures, published terms and conditions, direct platform observation and communication with betting sites where applicable.

Betline makes reasonable efforts to ensure that information is accurate at the time of publication. Betting services, promotions, payment options, platform features, ownership details and licence status are subject to change at any time and without notice.

Bettors should always confirm current details directly with the betting site before registering, depositing money or placing a bet. Betline cannot guarantee that every item of information will remain current after publication and is not responsible for decisions made solely on the basis of information appearing on the site.

Update and Review Process

Betting-site profiles are reviewed periodically. Where material changes are identified, profiles are updated accordingly. Individual profiles carry their own last-updated dates. The date shown at the top of this page reflects the most recent review of the methodology itself.

A new review can be conducted when Betline becomes aware of a material change involving licensing, ownership, customer terms, public marketing, payments, withdrawals, customer support, responsible gambling provisions or platform availability.

Following a review, Betline can update, restrict, suspend or remove a profile. Betline is not obliged to publish or provide a detailed explanation for an inclusion, placement, suspension or removal decision.
